of the municipality of Bowie, MD.[1] [2]

History[]

Although the City of Bowie itself was established in 1916, the BPD was not established until September 18, 2006 with the swearing in of Chief Perez formerly of the District Heights Police Department. In the department's short tenure, it has grown to an agency of about 40 sworn officers with a projected strength around 90.[3]

Organization[]

The current and first Chief of Police is Katherine Perez. Because of the youth of the agency, the BPD is semi-independant from the Prince George's County Police Department. It still requires some specialized assistance from the County Police; however, the agency is projected to be full-service with K-9, a detective bureau, and specialized teams within the next few years.[4]
